It was just after noon when, while crossing the street at a pedestrian crossing, he was hit by a large scooter. It happened last Wednesday on Corso Vittorio Emanuele in Naples. The victim—as reported by Il Mattino and Il Messaggero—is 45-year-old Michelangelo Contu from Cagliari, who had just arrived in the city and was on his way to the B&B where he was supposed to spend the night. "I promised the surgeons that, if they fixed me, I would become a Napoli fan," he jokes, despite the ordeal.

"I tried to avoid the scooter," Contu explains, "but it got worse." Following the accident, the 45-year-old suffered several fractured vertebrae and required emergency surgery at the hospital. Before help arrived, the wait on the road was long: nearly 40 minutes waiting for the ambulance, slowed down by city traffic. However, the assistance of some passersby who stopped was providential. "The doctors initially gave me an orange code, which was then changed to red once I got to the emergency room." The surgery lasted six hours. At the moment, Contu is still bedridden and waiting to go home.

"I have to return to Cagliari as soon as possible because my mother isn't well. I have to go to her," Contu confesses. Despite the drama, there's also room for humor. After making a promise to the doctors, he went ahead: "I've already bought the kit with a shirt and shorts."
