An incredible and tragic accident in Piancavallo (Pordenone) , where a man was seriously injured after being literally torn from the chairlift he was on by a safety net which, lifted by a strong gust of wind, got caught in his foot .
The man, a worker in the area, fell from a height of about ten metres onto the concrete of a safety pylon .
The victim, a 32-year-old resident of Mortara (Pavia), had finished his shift as an employee at a mountain hut-restaurant. He had just boarded the Tremol Uno chairlift to return to the valley when a strong gust of wind lifted the safety netting surrounding the lift .
The rope got caught in the man's boot, which dragged him for several meters before slipping under a safety bar and falling onto the concrete of a pylon, sustaining very serious injuries.
Air ambulance services were unable to reach the scene due to the strong winds. The man was rescued and taken by ambulance to Udine Hospital, where he underwent two critical surgeries.
