A 15-year-old boy was struck by lightning this afternoon while outside. The incident occurred in the Coppo area of Crognaleto (Teramo) during a violent thunderstorm that hit the inland areas of Abruzzo .
The young man was with his father, who immediately alerted 118. He was rescued and transported by helicopter to the San Salvatore Hospital in L'Aquila. His condition is critical, and his prognosis remains guarded . Law enforcement was also on the scene. The young man is in intensive care.
The lightning struck not far from the Monte di Mezzo area, near Lake Campotosto . The rescue operations, led by the Abruzzo Alpine and Speleological Rescue team aboard the L'Aquila helicopter, were hampered by a violent hailstorm. The 15-year-old was first stabilized on site and then transferred to the hospital in the capital.
