A nine-month-old baby from Vibonati (Salerno) is fighting for his life in the Santobono pediatric hospital in Naples, where he arrived with very serious injuries, including fractures to his head, a femur and, according to initial reports, also to his neck .
The little boy underwent a complex emergency surgery after being transferred by helicopter ambulance from the hospital in Sapri, in the Salerno area, where he had arrived unconscious late yesterday morning. His condition remains very serious: the prognosis is reserved . According to health workers, it seems that the little boy was also suffering from serious breathing difficulties, perhaps linked to a previous pathology.
Investigations are underway into the family context and the causes of these very serious injuries .
The alarm was raised by the mother who took the child to the emergency room accompanied by her current partner and immediately after the hospital's report, the Carabinieri of the Vibonati station began investigations. The aim is to clarify what happened in the hours before the hospitalization: the investigators are reconstructing the family context of the child, who lives with his mother in a coastal hamlet of Vibonati.
The father, a resident of Sapri, declared that he was not present at the time of the events and was supposed to meet his ex-partner in the afternoon to take custody of the couple's other son.
The investigation is centered on the domestic environment where the child was at the time of the serious trauma and investigators are interviewing all the people involved, including the mother, her current partner, a man who moved from Calabria some time ago, and the child's father . Investigations are also underway into the parents' past, as recent reports of family conflicts have emerged.
