Terni Mayor Stefano Bandecchi has been sent to trial in Rome on charges of tax evasion.

Bandecchi is accused of failing to pay approximately €20 million in taxes as de facto administrator of the Unicusano online university. Investigators allege that the sum was not paid between 2018 and 2022.

In addition to Bandecchi, three other individuals who held senior positions within the company are also on trial. The trial has been scheduled for June 4th before a single judge.

"No surprises, I expected it, everything went as planned. We hope to be able to prove our innocence at trial," Bandecchi commented after learning of the indictment.
