Brussels unlocks new funds for Italy and strengthens the country's central role in implementing the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The European Commission has disbursed the eighth installment of the Italian NRRP, amounting to €12.8 billion, bringing the total resources collected so far to €153.2 billion, or 79% of the overall allocation.
The announcement was made by EU Commission Vice President Raffaele Fitto , who spoke on social media of a result that "confirms the solid pace of implementation of the Plan and the quality of the reforms and investments made."
This assessment comes after the European green light for achieving the objectives set for this tranche.
The newly disbursed resources are intended to support strategic interventions in numerous key sectors : from public administration reform to public procurement, from the circular economy to water management, through to digitalization, renewable energy, and the fight against energy poverty.
Funds will also be allocated to tourism, education, research, and innovation, areas considered central to the country's structural growth.
Satisfaction was also expressed by Palazzo Chigi. In a statement, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized that, with the request for payment of the ninth installment, "Italy confirms its leadership in Europe in implementing the NRRP, both in terms of the number of objectives achieved and the amount received," compared to the European average of 60%.
The government's focus is now on the final goal. "In 2026," Meloni added, "the executive will continue to work with determination to complete the objectives of the tenth and final installment, transforming Europe's most complex plan into concrete results for citizens and businesses, for the economy, and for the nation's international credibility."
