Italy, with the Italians Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia , signed an extraordinary double on the Kandahar track in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . Brignone took victory with a time of 1.35.83, taking home her thirty-second career success and the fifth of the season. Goggia followed her by a whisker, stopping the clock at 1.35.84, with a gap of just 29 centimeters.
On the podium, in third place , was the Swiss Corinne Suter , with a time of 1.36.02. With this success, Brignone not only retains the red bib of the downhill leader with 289 points against Goggia's 260 but also consolidates her lead in the general classification with 739 points against the 629 of the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, today 5th. Not bad at all for the veteran Brignone who, born on July 14, 1990, is increasingly the oldest winning skier in history. And tomorrow on the Kandahar there is a super-G.
Of the other Italians competing today, Laura Pirovano 10th in 1.36.37, Marta Bassino 12th in 1.36.79, Nicol Delago 14th in 1.36.85 and Elena Curtoni 15th in 1.37.02: the downhill was interrupted for a long time by the bad fall of the Austrian Nina Ortlieb. Out near the finish line but without any injuries was also the American Lindsey Vonn.
