The case involving the alleged presence of Israeli soldiers on holiday in Gallura, for a period of "decompression" after their service in Gaza, has ended up in the Chamber.
Five Star Movement MPs have submitted a question requiring an immediate response to Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi to clarify the situation.
This is the text of the question.
To the Minister of the Interior - To know - given that:
We learn from the press that, over the past year and this year, large groups of Israeli soldiers have consistently spent periods of leave, "decompression" breaks, or in any case temporary breaks from fighting, in resorts in renowned Italian tourist locations;
It is deeply disconcerting - also because of the resulting blatant complicity with the State of Israel, in stark contrast to the Government's recent statements on the escalation against Gaza - that our country is offering itself as a place of recreation for active soldiers of the army of a country whose prime minister has been issued an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity and whose prime minister, in the questioners' opinion, is perpetrating a massacre of civilians and a veritable genocide against another people;
The press also reports – incontrovertible photos are available – that DIGOS units were, and perhaps still are, engaged in day-and-night control, monitoring, and escort services for groups of Israeli soldiers on vacation, protected in all their movements, including trips and visits to sites and places of interest, as they are considered "sensitive targets." This has already sparked protests from citizens in the areas where the soldiers arrive and stay;
The questioners strongly condemn the Government's conduct in providing reception, security, and refreshment services to Israeli soldiers, while treating children from Gaza, wounded, mutilated, and orphaned by that same army, in our hospitals;
whether he intends to clarify the information and facts set out in the introduction with reference to the channels of arrival of the aforementioned soldiers as well as, to the extent of his competence, with regard to the existence of any agreements, formal or otherwise, with equivalent Israeli authorities for the purposes of preparing the logistical bases, reception and security of the aforementioned soldiers.
