The Via Crucis according to the artist Anna Gardu.
An exhibition on the much loved Easter rite was inaugurated in Irgoli in the church of Santu Miali , in the presence of the Undersecretary for Culture Vittorio Sgarbi . Welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd, the initiative has not betrayed the style that characterizes women, capable of creating real jewels with pasta, almonds and sugar . For the occasion, in fact, Gardu, originally from Oliena , was called to think through her works decorated with a meticulous miniaturization process that enhances features and figures, one of the most touching and pathos-rich moments of Holy Week: the Via Crucis .
In all the tables on display a red cloth is represented. The one in which the Holy thorns were stuck. There will then be a sixteenth table which will depict the beggar with holy thorns. «The mystery of the Holy Thorns – explains Gardu – lives again in the Easter celebrations . A Via Crucis that retraces the pain of Christ in fifteen stages . A crown of thorns to remind us of the pain of the one who, choosing the good for others, gave up his own life. There is an aura of mystery in all this representation that particularly involved me. The same mystery that envelops Irgoli through the figure of a beggar who has come from afar, with the original thorns of the root of peace from the crown of Christ as a gift».
The honors of the house were done by the mayor of Irgoli Ignazio Porcu , by the parish priest don Angelo Cosseddu and by the regional councilor Franco Mula , who were present yesterday at the inauguration of the exhibition. To make everything even more impressive the intervention and a real stage presence of Sos cantores de Irgoli who interpreted some traditional songs with many voices. « Gardu is an artist that I greatly admire and whose art I have shown in important places (Venice Expo) in front of the world. It allows itself to make sacred art, the one cradled by Western culture for many centuries. He proves to be so sensitive and cultured that he applies his traditional recipe with a spirit of innovation. Pass in this exhibition on the Via Crucis from the happy dimension to the dramatic one. A difficult path that I didn't expect and that she faced in this country of her land, because she feels deeply Sardinian. Such a sophisticated operation could have been done in New York, precisely because it is a very complex contemporary work of art. But you did it here, not in Paris or Milan», commented Vittorio Sgarbi.
