Invasion of grasshoppers, green light from the Sardinian council to the Action Plan
Resolution approved to contain and combat the infestation

With a resolution approved today by the Sardinian regional council, on the proposal of the councilor for agriculture Gabriella Murgia, in concert with the councilor for the defense of the environment Gianni Lampis, the island gives the green light to the action plan for the containment and the contrast of grasshoppers and a territorial unit for the phytosanitary emergency.
The infestation particularly affected the territories of Bolotana, Bortigali, Lei, Noragugume, Olzai, Orani, Orotelli, Ottana, Silanus and Teti in the Province of Nuoro; Anela, Benetutti, and Illorai in the Province of Sassari; Sedilo and Sorradile in the Province of Oristano, for a total of 15 municipalities involved. There were several reports and requests for action presented by local administrators and stakeholders.
In December, the Laore Agency had been commissioned to draw up the three-year plan to combat acrid infestations, with the technical and scientific support of the University of Sassari.
"In the first half of 2022 - remember Murgia and Lampis - a series of activities was carried out, including over 600 phytosanitary treatments carried out in spring on sites with the presence of young forms of grasshoppers, for which about 15 operational teams on the ground provided of truck with atomizer. These treatments have certainly made it possible to put a first barrier to the gradation of the infestation ".
The Action Plan requires the Region to establish a Territorial Unit for the phytosanitary emergency that implements the national measure and ensures the coordination of all the subjects involved. The territorial unit will be composed of representatives of the regional and national phytosanitary service, of the regional departments of Agriculture and Environmental Defense, of the Prefectures, of the provinces affected by the infestations, of the Forestry Corps, of the General Directorate of Regional Civil Protection , the Laore and Forestas agencies, the Municipalities affected by the infestations, the Department of Agriculture of the University of Sassari, a representative for each of the most representative agricultural organizations in Sardinia and any other experts or stakeholders convened from time to time in reason for specific problems.
