A reciting voice at the beginning, the ballet and then the lyrical singing. A courageous and innovative mix proposed at the Comunale di Sassari with “Giselle around Le Villi”, produced by the de Carolis entity with the Teatro del Giglio-Giacomo Puccini of Lucca. The fusion of history and music of the ballet Giselle by Adam and the opera Le Villi by Puccini is compressed into just over 100 minutes that kept the attention and interest of the spectators alive.
The scenes, curated like the direction by Alberto Gazale , have accentuated the dreamlike dimension of the drama that sees Anna (soprano Anastasia Boldyreva ) abandoned by her fiancé Roberto (tenor Carlo Ventre) dying of grief and then tormenting her beloved as a spirit, with the help of the Villi, a sort of janas, evoked by Anna's father, Guglielmo, played by Gazale himself. The continuous reference between opera and ballet (the choreography by Luigia Frattaroli is well done and well interpreted), between singers and dancers, has given intensity to the story.
The hybrid narrative may not always be fluid, but the charm of this courageous operation carried out thanks also to the sensitive direction of Beatrice Venezi , at ease with the orchestra of the de Carolis institution, is undeniable.
It is certainly a new path that is worth continuing to follow, also because it no longer makes sense to keep unchanged in the expressive forms works from over a century ago that run the risk of no longer being able to communicate effectively with the new generations.
