"We have an extraordinary opportunity before us that will allow us to launch the largest plan to modernize and improve the efficiency of the road and infrastructure network in Sardinia. The resources deriving from European funds, together with national and regional funding and, from an operational point of view, the new powers deriving from the commissioning of the main Sardinian road works, whose decree has been perfected, will allow Sardinia to concretely enter a new phase focused on development, innovation, inclusion, employment, with investments and new growth opportunities ". Thus the President of the Region, Christian Solinas, following the green light of the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (Cipess) to finance strategic infrastructures for the island, and in detail 117.5 million for the roads, 311 million for the railways, 12.2 million for the water sector and 8.4 million for other works, out of a total value of approximately 450 million euros.

"The resources arriving for Sardinia are the result of the profuse commitment and collaboration with the Ministries for Infrastructures and for the South, with which we had a continuous dialogue that lasted months", added the councilor for Public Works, Aldo Salaris. "Sardinia is in 234th place out of 268 European regions (and among the last in Italy) in the 2019 regional competitiveness index (RCI, which measures the strengths and weaknesses of the EU regions) - continued the commissioner - Today we concretely have the possibility of reversing this trend, also considering that indicators such as the level of innovation and that of infrastructures, for which the island is in 203rd place in Europe and among the last in Italy, are the first cause of the road deficit. and railway ".
