Stinging for the road transport sector in Sardinia, which on the island is heavily affecting the approximately 1,500 artisan businesses, with over 4 thousand employees, which handle 80% of goods throughout the territory.

The alarm was raised by Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna.

According to the trade association, the increase in the price of diesel at the pump, which was 1.35 per liter a year ago, is now equal to 1.65 euros (+ 22.3%). Therefore, it is estimated that the cost of a full tank for a heavy vehicle of over 11 tons has risen by 150 euros. Taking as a reference the average distance of a lorry of 100 thousand kilometers per year with 3.3 kilometers per liter, the result produces an unsustainable increase for a hauler, which in just 12 months entails an increase in the cost of thousands of euros for each vehicle. .

"As an entrepreneurial association we had warned in time of the risks that would affect the world of road transport with the increase in fuel prices, proposing some emergency measures to the Minister of Infrastructures and Sustainable Mobility Enrico Giovannini and Deputy Minister Teresa Bellanova. We must say that we are not been heard ", commented the president of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna, Maria Amelia Lai.

"Road haulage companies are now being crushed both by the increases in wholesale energy prices and by those of retail fuels: production activities bear the burden of the restarting of the economy in the post-pandemic phase. our region, more than 80% of goods are transported by road and by ships. If we think about how the increase in the price at the diesel pump, just a few days ago went over 1600 euros per thousand liters, or 13% more than the previous week, we can imagine where and how this extra cost will go: first on freight transport companies, then on processing companies and finally on consumers and, therefore, on the economy ", he added.

To protect thousands of small and medium haulers, Confartigianato asks that the government "implement immediate measures to ease the pressure on businesses, returning part of that 'treasure', quantified in one billion euros, collected by the tax authorities as extra income resulting from excise duties on the price at the fuel pump ".
