Wood, lead and plaster. Three different materials, worked separately and then assembled to reconstruct the Italian armed forces from the 18th century to today, with particular reference to the Sardinian corps. From Monday to Friday, November 8 (from 9 am to 1 pm) the Municipal Historical Archive will exhibit the collection of military figurines of Augusto Pranzetti. The exhibition is part of the celebrations organized in the city on the occasion of the Festa delle Forze Armante, the Day of National Unity and in which the Fallen of all wars are remembered.
Son of a mounted Carabinieri officer, Augusto Pranzetti showed strong curiosity and commitment since childhood for modeling and in particular for the reconstruction of the world of toy soldiers on foot and on horseback. Over time, his passion transformed into a real work commitment, when his works began to be known and appreciated in Italy and abroad. Towards the end of his career he began an artistic collaboration with the figurine designer Luciano Antonini. In 1951 he created the historical series of 54 figurines of the Italian army for the Municipality of Sassari.
There will also be exhibited some documents relating to the construction of a monumental tomb that was supposed to house the remains of the Sassarese fallen during the First World War. Remains that were then placed in the National Military Shrines, built in the 1930s.
