In Sardinia, inflation is record-breaking: + 6.1% in February, the worst figure in the last 30 years
The net increase on an annual basis is equal to 5.3%, a value that has not been recorded since July 1991

It is a record inflation that is attacking businesses and households in Sardinia, which went from 0.8% in February 2021 to 6.1% in the same month of this year (fifth position in all of Italy for the greatest increase in prices, Sicily first with + 6.8%), with a net increase on an annual basis of 5.3% (tenth position), a figure which had not been registered since July 1991.
73% of the increase in prices, equal to 4.9% inflation points, derives from energy goods, which in February of this year underwent an increase of 27.4% compared to the same month of the year just ended, thus passing from 1.3% in 2021 to 28.7% in the current month.
These are some of the data that emerge from the analysis on the growth of inflation, carried out by the Studies Office of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna, on Istat data between February 2021 and February 2022, examining over 230 products.
IN THE PROVINCES - At the territorial level, the highest increase in the island is recorded in the province of Sassari with a + 5.6%, passing from 0.7% in February 2021 to + 6.3% in the same period of this year year. The data recorded on Cagliari is also important, with inflation going from 1% in February 2021 to 5.6% this year, for a net increase of + 4.6%. The province of Olbia-Tempio recorded an increase of only 2.3%, but the increase from December 2021 (3.8%) and February 2022 (6.1%) was taken into account.
PRICES - In Sardinia, as mentioned, the first position for price increases relates to the items relating to water, electricity, gas and fuel, which recorded a rise in prices of 27.4% in one year, from 1 , 3% to 28.7%. In second position transport, which grew by 11.3% (from -0.8% to 10.5%). Third position for food, which grew by 4.8%, from 1.2% to 6%, for an increase of 4.8%. Fourth position for education-related services which went from negative -3.6 in 2021 to 0%, thus achieving growth of + 3.6%.
There was also a surge in catering, growing by 2.7% (from 1.9% to 4.6%), furniture / furnishings with + 2.6% (from 0.1% to 2.7%) and healthcare +0, 9% (from 0.6% to 1.5%). On the contrary, a decrease is recorded in communication products with -0.1%, for alcohol and tobacco with -0.8% and shows with -2%.
"The generalized and prolonged increase in prices - comments Maria Amelia Lai, president of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna - is leading to a decrease in the purchasing power of the population and putting businesses in crisis, caught in the grip of people's empty pockets and 'incredible increase in the prices of raw materials ".
“Unfortunately - continues Lai - inflationary tensions continue to unload on the 'shopping cart', and therefore on food, cleaning and personal hygiene and home maintenance. Inflation is the new 'economic pandemic' to which a concrete, imminent and effective response must be given. The risk of exploding costs, especially energy and raw materials costs, could soon translate into lowered shutters ".
