Urban art returns to Quartu Sant'Elena with the third edition of Street Art Week, scheduled from 10 to 13 July along Via del Mare – Viale Colombo, the beating heart of the city. This year, more than ever, the event will be an extraordinary fusion of creativity, active citizenship and solidarity, with a strong focus on the promotion of human rights.
The 2025 edition, promoted by Officine Verticali, Centro Commerciale Naturale La Via del Mare, Cittadinanza Attiva OIKOS and Propositivo, with the contribution of the Fondazione di Sardegna and the patronage of the Municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena, is part of an important urban redevelopment process that the Municipality is carrying out along Viale Colombo .
"Street Art Week fits well into the restyling process of Viale Colombo that we are carrying out and that is meeting the collaboration of the CCN La Via del Mare", declared the mayor Graziano Milia. "We have just finished laying the new asphalt and the marking of the horizontal signs is already scheduled for next week. Thanks to the contribution of the artists who will participate in the event, we will give further appeal to the street, also with the new toilet covers, each specially decorated . The fundraising for Palestine is the icing on the cake of an initiative that brings a positive contribution in terms of decorum, urban art and awareness regarding human rights".
The project combines art and solidarity in a concrete way. During the event, the works created in live painting will be auctioned and part of the proceeds will be donated to ASGOP (Associazione Sarda Genitori Oncoematologia Pediatrica).
Another slice of solidarity in favor of the Sardinia Palestine Association. A collective wall of about 30 square meters, called Wall For Gaza, will be created at the height of the second traffic light on Viale Colombo , where citizens and artists can leave a message for Palestine using only the symbolic colors: red, green and black. The initiative will be coordinated by the participating artists and Fenalc. An exhibition, called "NOT IN MY NAME" will be hosted by the commercial and restaurant activities that are collaborating (on social media you will find all the names of the participating activities). There will be a QR Code that will show all the reproductions of the works put up for sale by 20 artists, the proceeds from the sales will be entirely donated to the Sardinia Palestine Association to support the reconstruction of the Al Awda hospital in Gaza.
The event, as of June 30 (the deadline to submit applications) has registered over 65 applications from artists from all over Sardinia and beyond (applications have also arrived from Cuba and London), 9 of them, duly selected for the “Urban Evolution” competition, will try their hand at creating 12 digital prints that will embellish the vanity covers along the street, transforming the area into a permanent open-air urban gallery. Others for “Fuori Vetrina” with the artistic decoration of the shutters of commercial premises. The remaining ones will still be an active part of the project with their live painting and impromptu redevelopment projects during the four days.
Also planned are workshops for children, shows, break dance performances, musical contests and evenings of live music on a traveling stage (a van set up for the occasion). The moderator will be the rapper from Quartu Marco Angius, aka SuWoha. The selected works will be judged by a popular jury and a technical composed of La Fille Bertha, Alessandro Macciocco (Officina MUSH), Valentina Vinci (Propositivo), Marina Brunetti, aka Marinetti (Cittadinanza Attiva OIKOS) and Myriam Quaquero (Associazione Enti Locali per le attività culturale e di spettacolo). Cash prizes will be awarded to the first three classified (€1000, €600, €400) . All the artists who participate in the four days will also be able to participate in a vernissage spread across the participating commercial activities.
" Our goal is to transform the Via del Mare into a creative and participatory hub , where art, music and social cohesion walk hand in hand with the urban and economic revitalization of the territory", commented Luca Stocchino, president of the Centro Commerciale Naturale La Via del Mare. "Street Art Week thus confirms itself as an event of great social and cultural impact, capable of involving citizens, merchants, tourists and artists in a project that speaks of beauty, participation and solidarity".
