She was one of the greatest female performers in the history of cinema . Anna Magnani has become an icon and, fifty years after her death, the cinematographic cultural association Band Apart of Oristano celebrates the art of the Roman actress with the exhibition “Nannarella. Homage to Anna Magnani” in four evenings: starting tomorrow with the screening of “Campo de' fiore” (1943, 95') by Mario Bonnard; Tuesday 3 October will be the turn of “Il bandito” (1946, 83') by Alberto Lattuada; on Tuesday 10th we continue with “The Golden Coach” (1952, 103') by Jean Renoir and finally on 17 October with “Snake Skin” (1960, 119') by Sidney Lumet (the appointments are at 8.45pm in the venue via Canalis).
Antidiva par excellence, instinctive, strong-willed, irreverent, “Nannarella” – as she was affectionately called – stood out for her unparalleled intelligence and acting flexibility , offering interpretations that were the result of modern acting techniques far from the stereotypes of the time. She was able to give a voice and face to Italian women, at home and in the United States, embodying the commoner, the Scianthosa, the rebel, the prostitute, the mother of the family, changing the gaze of women and on women.
She was able to impose herself due to the strength of her figure as a woman and her ability to live every experience (profession, friendships, loves, suffering) with the maximum intensity; on and off the stage, on and off the screen.
