A successful theater festival. In Nuoro, the Terreni d'Incontro Festival closes amidst widespread acclaim after Wednesday's final performance. It's time to take stock, then, still reeling from the excitement of hectic days, travel, acting, and all the emotion the stage offers both performers and listeners. Once again, the magic, that subtle yet magnetic connection, was repeated throughout the festival and its home, the Maccioni Deledda schools on Viale Costituzione. The message is clear: the outskirts become a distance to be broken down, a wall that crumbles when dialogue, services, and performances arrive and are easily accessible.
The budget
"It was an event that enlivened the Nuoro summer, engaging a large audience of all ages who were captivated by the diverse program, which ranged from children's theater to comedy and drama, to performances for peace and against war," says Patrizia Viglino, artistic director of the Garcia Lorca Company. "It touched on important themes such as environmentalism, the role of women and children in conflicts, migrants and their prejudices, social media dependence, schooling in Sardinia in the 1950s, and the siege of Gaza." Viglino adds: "In the end, the outcome was excellent, completely unexpected considering the summer season. We were amazed by the affection and participation of the audience, not only from Nuoro but also from neighboring towns. We thank everyone for sharing the events with us in an atmosphere of participation, emotion, fun, and exchange."
Shows
In ten days, 15 shows and 5 free performances were staged, drawing on decades of experience from the García Lorca Theatre Company, the commitment of Patrizia Viglino as artistic director, and Agostino Chironi as technical director. This year, the Terreni d'Incontro Festival confirmed its mission as a place for exchange, social gathering, and dialogue thanks to the support of the Fondazione di Sardegna and the patronage of the City of Nuoro's Department of Culture, which played a key role in promoting the events. All this was possible thanks to the Maccioni Deledda School, which provided a cultural space for the city and the neighborhood.
New appointments
The Terreni d'Incontro Festival will resume in September with three days of music in the "Giardino Buscarini" spaces of the Satta Library. A special opening date will be announced soon on September 11th; Arkon, a classic doom band singing in the Sardinian language, will perform on September 12th; renowned bluesmen Williboy Taxi and Vittorio Pitzalis will perform on September 13th; and on September 14th, Instinct & Pain, another Sardinian band with a darkwave sound tinged with folk, will perform.
The organizers
The Terreni d'Incontro Theatre Festival was born from the idea of creating spaces for artistic and creative exchange, focusing on artists and original productions in theater, music, and the visual arts. The Festival is rooted in the city of Nuoro, where the theater festival and music festival are held, but it also has a traveling mission, hosting various events in other cities across Sardinia, at cultural venues such as museums, libraries, and archaeological sites. Its social outreach opens spaces for collaboration with schools through theater training workshops for students, while its civic engagement includes activities within prisons, engaging inmates in a continuous process of integration where art serves as a unifying force and a bridge for dialogue.
