The artist Melissa Marcello and the Municipality of Mandas propose, until Sunday 9 January 2022, an exhibition-installation on the theme "The crib and Sardinian tradition reinterpreted through contemporary art".
The characters of the nativity scene, almost all citizens of Mandas starting with the little Gioele Gessa in the role of the Child Jesus (St. Joseph and the Madonna are represented by Alessio Addari and Benedetta Pisano), were depicted on suspended cloths thanks to the images taken by Melissa Marcello inside an eighteenth-century house owned by the Municipality who worked on the project in collaboration with the Pro Loco and the Acli di Mandas.
Visitors will walk next to these cloths which, as mentioned, each depict a character from the nativity scene wearing traditional Mandarese clothing or local history (for example, one of the Magi is the Duke of Mandas).
Some of the characters have been portrayed in some work activities: starting from “su sabatteri” (the little Stefano Pitzalis), to the farmer (Antonello Deidda), to the shepherd boy (Emanuele Saruis) and so on.
"The purpose of this installation is to remove the aura of contemporary work but to make it alive and interactive with people who will in fact walk among the sheets to immerse themselves in a world of Sardinian identity and Christian culture", say the organizers.
The photo shoot, post-production and design are a free work of the young artist of Sardinian origins, who has been in Milan for some time, who cares a lot about the Sardinian tradition and the enhancement of the territory and the promotion of traditional culture.
