«Once again the passenger traffic data and the volumes of arrivals in Sardinia, in the two peak months of the tourist season, certify a result never achieved before, superior not only to last year, but also to that of the 2019 season».

This was underlined by the regional councilor for Transport Antonio Moro, who also rattles off the data of the last two months:

  • From 1 July to 30 August 2023, the total traffic (arrivals and departures) in the three airports and four ports of Sardinia reached the record figure of 5,401,295 passengers; in the same reference period, in 2022 they were 5,337,037, while in 2019 they stopped at 5,191,285.
  • Even arrivals have never been in such a high number: from 1 July to 30 August 2023 the passengers disembarked in the port and airports of the island were a total of 2,738,835; in 2022 they were 2,597,022 and in 2019 they were 2,626,901.
  • In the period July-August 2023, traffic at Cagliari airport reached the figure of 1,189,583 (40,149 passengers more than in the same period of 2022 and 16,799 compared to 2019). Arrivals in July and August 2023 at the Mario Mameli were 599,842 (19,593 more than in 2022 and 10,951 more than in 2019).
  • In Olbia airport, the overall traffic from July to August 2023 amounted to 1,390,397 (49,855 more passengers than in 2022 and 172,488 more than in 2019). Arrivals in July-August 2023 were 696,953 (26,289 more than in 2022 and 88,966 more than in 2019).
  • In Alghero, July-August 2023 recorded a total traffic (arrivals plus departures) of 420,408 (21,654 passengers less than in 2022 and 4,607 more than in 2019). Arrivals at the Algherese airport, in the same reference period, were 212,266 (9,977 less than in 2022 and 3,878 more than in 2019).
  • In the ports of Cagliari, Olbia, Porto Torres and Golfo Aranci, in the period July-August 2023 there was a total traffic (arrivals plus departures) of 2,422,907 passengers (17,908 more than in 2022 and 38,116 more than 2019) . July-August 2023 landings were (again with reference to the four port calls) 1,240,774 (8,117 more than in 2022 and 19,139 more than in 2019).

"Once again the passenger traffic data and the volumes of arrivals in Sardinia, in the two peak months of the tourist season, certify a result never obtained before - declared the regional councilor for transport, Antonio Moro - superior not only to last year , but also to that of the 2019 season».

"I do not deny criticalities and inconveniences - explained the exponent of the council of President Solinas - just as an overall improvement of both air and naval transport services is desirable, but the mystifications and exploitations that we continue to record even in the last few hours, they do not bring any benefit to Sardinia and even less do they improve the quality of life on our island, just as they do not increase the shares of that right to mobility and territorial continuity which is repeatedly invoked and of which there is still an extreme need".

"In fact, Sardinia needs more unity of people and intentions - concluded Moro - to defend those guarantees and those derogatory specificities with respect to the free market that with commitment and effort, for more than twenty years now, we have managed to obtain, from the Italian State and from Europe. Protections that we sometimes perceive as not entirely sufficient to compensate for our insular condition and which certainly deserve new tools and renewed collaboration with the government and with the European Commission, to strengthen and improve the course taken towards economic development and social growth and cultural which, as is known, for Sardinia, passes for long stretches precisely from the efficiency of the entire transport system».
