Augusta Montaruli resigns as undersecretary of the University, after the definitive conviction for the improper use of the funds of the Piedmont council groups in the years from 2010 to 2014.

"I have decided to resign from my government post - says the exponent of the Brothers of Italy - to defend the institutions certain of my innocence".

«I have the serenity to be able to say – adds Montaruli – that I have not caused any shortage to the public coffers or other damage to the public administration and citizens. Furthermore, nothing has ever been hidden and in fact the process in which I was involved is essentially based on reports duly delivered when no one was yet even under investigation. Also from an institutional point of view, starting from 2012, I proceeded to exclude myself from any candidacy for a good five years and in any case until the first acquittal sentence".

The story obviously triggered the political controversy : «Every day we witness the slips and mistakes of the FdI ruling class. And all this takes place in the embarrassed silence of the government allies and with the political coverage of Giorgia Meloni ", wrote the presidents of the parliamentary groups of the Democratic Party Simona Malpezzi and Debora Serracchiani in a note, according to Montaruli's sentence "it is the confirmation of the inadequacy of this right".
