Claudio Ranieri also joins in mourning the death of Vito Chimenti , a former striker with 77 appearances and 13 goals in Serie A.

«Saddened by his passing – the words of the Cagliari coach -, a correct and loyal person. In addition to being an opponent, I had the pleasure of meeting him as a teammate at Catanzaro . My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones."

Vito Chimenti played for Matera, Lecco and Salernitana. Then he exploded in Palermo in B and rose to the top flight where he wore the shirts of Catanzaro, Pistoiese and Avellino, before ending his career in C with Taranto. As a coach he was part of the technical staff of Salernitana, Foggia, Messina, Matera, Lanciano, Rimini and Virtus Casarano.

He became famous for the "bibicletta" , a South American play that became thanks to him a small legend of provincial football in the 70s and 80s: it is a dribble with which the ball is raised above the head with the heel jumping the defender in a run .

Chimenti was 69 years old, he died of an illness in the locker room of the sports field of Pomarico (Matera) before the Lucan match between Pomarico and Real Senise which was not played .

The 118 operators tried to revive him for a long time, without success.
