The Regional Council has given the green light to the relaunch of Igea SpA, the Sardinia Region's in-house company responsible for the reclamation and development of abandoned mining areas.

The resolution, proposed by Industry Councillor Emanuele Cani, establishes three priorities for the three-year period 2025-2027: a new industrial plan, strengthening the workforce and strategic management of real estate assets .

The plan calls for internal reorganization and a strengthening of operational capacity, with the goal of transforming Igea into an innovative company capable of developing circular economy projects, from metal recovery to the reuse of materials from mine landfills, and collaboration with universities and research centers. "We want a three-year planning model based on transparency, efficiency, and sustainability," Cani stated, emphasizing the goal of making Igea "a driver of development for Sardinia."

The planned actions include staff retraining and new hires to support the business plan . On the real estate front, the company will proceed with the divestment of assets that are not functional to strategic objectives, reinvesting the proceeds in technical and infrastructural modernization.

By October 31, 2025, Igea must submit the guidelines for its new business plan and a staff training program to the Region . The asset assessment and draft divestment plan must also be completed by the end of the year, with the publication of the tender notices for the sale of the identified assets.
