We constantly monitor the terrorist threat; anti-Semitism is one of the greatest dangers, as recently occurred in Sardinia. For this reason, prevention services have been established, always carried out when there are groups, cultural gatherings, that could be exposed to acts of intolerance. These people could not be left at the mercy of potential criminals.
Thus Matteo Piantedosi in the Chamber, responding to the question of the 5 Star Movement on the case of the Israeli soldiers on holiday in Gallura .
The Interior Minister declined to comment on the possibility of agreements between the Italian and Israeli governments to allow IDF soldiers to spend a "decompression period" in Italian resorts after serving in Gaza . He also explained why law enforcement is required to protect them.
"The terrorist threat is constantly monitored, and anti-Semitism is one of the most worrying aspects that have emerged since the October 7th attacks," he began. "This is why we have strengthened prevention efforts both for resident Jewish communities and for groups occasionally present in the country, such as those mentioned in the question. In the case of the Marche region, prevention services were established last year during visits and outings. These services are always carried out when there are reports of the presence of cultural, tourist, or sports groups that may be exposed to acts of intolerance, as recently occurred in Sardinia . Protecting anyone at risk of being a victim of violence in our country and establishing surveillance services to maintain public order and safety is what the police forces will continue to do," Minister Piantedosi stated.
These statements prompted a harsh response from M5S MP Alfonso Colucci , one of the signatories of the question. Colucci's comments were particularly harsh, particularly regarding the definition of "cultural groups" made by the Meloni government official.
"Once again, you've fooled us, you've lied to the Italians. These are not tourists or cultural groups, they are suspected war criminals, they are part of an army that killed 18,000 children and over 60,000 Palestinians ," Colucci blurts out, also mentioning the arrest warrant for war crimes pending against Benjamin Netanyahu.
"The extermination of the Gaza people is not self-defense, it is genocide. And Italy cannot become a luxury resort for those who shoot children. No to agreements with Israel, no to your political and moral complicity. You, who sent General Almasri home on a state plane, have made it clear once again that the Meloni government is on the side of the executioners," concludes the M5S MP.
