How does gas reach the network in Sardinia?

Gaxa is the main network gas sales company in Sardinia which guarantees Sardinian families a constant supply of natural gas (or methane) and city gas (ie propaneated air), supplying over eighty municipalities on the island.
But how does the gas get to people's homes?
The gas route in Sardinia , given its insular nature distant from the rest of the country, represents a unique case in Italy. Sardinian citizens are supplied with two different forms of gas distributed through the city networks: propane air, a mixture of air and propane, present in the Municipalities of Cagliari, Oristano, Nuoro and Sassari, and the natural gas (or methane) present instead in all the other Municipalities served by Gaxa .
The path of the Gas
The propane arrives on the island by ship in the form of LPG (liquid propane gas), purchased from North Africa, and transported by the Local Distributor to the storage tanks and then to the vaporization and mixing plants for the production of city gas; it is then distributed to families via the city network. Furthermore, a large quantity is produced in the refinery and transported locally with tankers to the city depots. The gas natural gas , on the other hand, is transported only in liquid form (LNG or liquid natural gas) by ship, stored in the coastal depot of Oristano and transferred by tanker trucks at very low temperatures to the tanks of the Local Distributor. It is stored in liquid form in cryogenic depots and, once it has been returned to the gaseous state, it is introduced into the distribution networks. The latter, the true pride of our Region, are the latest generation networks, ready to receive biogas and hydrogen.
The challenge of Sardinia
Gas distribution in Sardinia is certainly unique, but Sardinian families can also count on a constant supply of gas on the network , in order to guarantee their well-being and support innovative development for the island.
