A master at coloring jazz with soulful nuances, but also capable of introducing more exotic funky rhythms, Horace Silver is one of the great composers, who also availed himself of the best musicians in his sessions. Sunday at 11am the   The Civic Theatre of Sassari hosts the tribute dedicated to him by the Blue Note Brass Sextet plus , one of the groups born within the Jazz Orchestra of Sardinia .

The sextet's unusual lineup, consisting of two trumpets, trombone, horn, tuba, saxophone, and drums, has little parallel in the jazz tradition. The tuba fills the traditional role of the double bass, but the lineup captures the sound of a "little big band" very well.

Thanks to the splendid arrangements by Duccio Bertini, the group, formed by 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐢 (alto sax), 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐮 (trumpet), 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐚 𝐔𝐫𝐚𝐬 – (trumpet), 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐢 (trombone), 𝐆𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐞 (horn), 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨 (tuba), 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐚 𝐏𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 (drums), transformed ten of Silver's masterpieces into a lively, ironic and deeply jazzy sonic journey. During the concert, maestro 𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐨 will illustrate and describe the compositions.

It should be noted that after the many concerts dedicated to this project, “La musica di Horace Silver” was turned into an album, recorded in Sassari at Alberto Erre ’s “ Blu Studio” and published by “ JazzOp Record” last July.
