The city of Carbonia is at the forefront for the Sardinian language to be taught in schools and this is also demonstrated by the opening several months ago of a special Sardinian language office which is involving many users and even a teacher from a college in the US state of Kentucky.

In fact, the municipal administration was the first to sign the regional law proposal, by the association "Sardinia towards Unesco" and ANCI, to ensure that Sardinian history becomes fully operational in the school curriculum, with reference to the prehistoric period and protohistoric.

Carbonia also boasts a protohistoric site of global importance , i.e. the rock shelter of Sirri dated around 9000 BC , which has been extensively studied by Professor Carlo Lugliè, who recently died in tragic circumstances.

The Municipality of Carbonia has done its part.

«It is an assumption of responsibility - says the mayor Pietro Morittu - which arises from the requests of young students who have shown great sensitivity towards the ancient civilization of the nuraghes, in the awareness that the recovery of the identity dimension can be a driving force for a model of economic development.
