An experiential journey to raise awareness on issues such as waste, upcycling, reuse: this is the beating heart of the IED Destination event, which closed the open day of the Cagliari design school on Thursday 11 July and which, for one evening, transformed Villa Satta in a real open-air atelier. An event dedicated to ethical fashion and creativity, a fashion show that closes a high level training course with, on the catwalk, the collections of the best 2023-2024 thesis projects of the Fashion Design course. On the catwalk the collections created by six students and one student, graduates in progress during the July session: Alexia Sedda, Anastasia Pandelli, Teresa Mereu, Maria Julieth Biggio, Gioia Angioni, Riccardo Collu and Francesca Seu. All the works were followed by the coordinators of the Fashion Design course Nicola Frau and Massimo Noli.

All the collections meet the sustainability criteria that relate to the concept of so-called ethical fashion. The materials used to make the garments are in fact the result of virtuous reuse and recycling processes, respecting the workers involved in the production chain and with the lowest possible impact on the environment. In this sense, a fundamental contribution came from the partners Errymondo, Italian Converter and Conceria Rino Mastrotto, who provided over 300 kilos of fabrics and reused materials, brought back to life by the students. The construction of identity is at the center of the reflection of Francesca Seu (speaker Franco Erre), who in "Forward to the Past" proposes a collection told as an investigative case, in which the role of detective and that of the victim are mixed in garments with a clear vintage flavour.

Alexia Sedda's project (supervisor Massimo Noli) is instead inspired by the passing of time, evoked by the discovery of letters written in the 1950s. His “Eclipse” is a familiar story in which the desire for a return to the essential is rediscovered.

Anastasia Pandelli (speakers Noli and Frau) plays with "Daleon" on the unconscious and memory, in a genderless collection based on the dichotomy between nature and geometry, where the contours of the body become superfluous.

“Kalium” is the project by Teresa Mereu (rapporteur Cristiana Arangino), which talks about the coexistence of opposites, drawing inspiration mainly from solid-liquid, with soft geometric shapes, oversized and tight-fitting garments, and complementary colours.

There are three key words that move "Rêver", the research of Gioia Angioni (speaker Franco Erre): reflection, upside down and deformation, for a collection whose main fabric is denim, transformed into unique garments with innovative prints and processes.

“Tiempo Suspendido” is the homage to the beauty of the movement conceived by Maria Julieth Biggio (speaker Crisitina Arangino). Fashion and dance come together thanks to a bridal collection made with fabrics from old dresses which come back to life telling a new story.

The speech by Riccardo Collu (speaker Lucio Aru) is more intimate, who with "A-Sange" explores Buddhist philosophy and the concept of human revolution, in a line that uses ruined or disused garments, continuing with an experimentation totally dictated by intuition and sensations.

«Thursday evening - explains the director of IED Cagliari Antonio Lupinu - is the demonstration that high-level training can be done in Sardinia, both in the public and private sectors, also with regards to creative professions. Unfortunately on our island we have a very high rate of school dropouts, but this parade, which is the closing of a very intense and three-year long training course, also wants to be a message to families: why it is still too important to invest in the education of our young".
