The regional governing majority is meeting to address the healthcare chaos.
Regional President Alessandra Todde has called a meeting with the secretaries of the Campo Largo political parties for 6:00 PM at Villa Devoto. The meeting will focus on the conundrum surrounding the appointment of the 12 general directors of the island's healthcare and university hospitals, following the Constitutional Court ruling that struck down the appointment of commissioners to the top management positions decided by the current regional government.
The governor, who holds the interim position in health care, is determined to close the deal by the end of the year, but the process appears to be an uphill battle. Her allies are divided on the path to resolving the impasse. The Democratic Party, especially, is the same party that previously rejected the dismissal of the former directors of health services, a center-right coalition, as advocated by the president and then-councilor Armando Bartolazzi . The Democrats are unhappy with Todde's acceleration , and in the absence of a weighty legal opinion—which the president is awaiting— they are unwilling to endorse the selection of the new directors general of the local health authorities (ASL) and the regional health authorities (AOU).
All this while the former directors removed after the approval of Law 8, now repealed in its essential parts, are preparing appeals to have their unpaid monthly salaries recognized.
The center-right coalition is fighting back and calling on the governor to report as soon as possible to the Sixth Committee, which they have requested be convened urgently. The minority's offensive is also affecting Rome, where the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies' Health Committee, Ugo Cappellacci, has submitted an urgent question to Minister Orazio Schillaci, requesting a review of essential levels of care and, ultimately, the government's exercise of substitute powers, up to and including appointing a commissioner for Sardinia's healthcare system.
