Health trips cost 87 million a year: a bill from Nuoro for Sardinian patients
They set off in search of treatment but face more and more difficulties. An attempt in the Chamber to facilitate the odyssey of "health migrants"Last year the Sardinians spent 87.5 million euros to go outside the region for treatment. We move towards Emilia Romagna, Veneto and Tuscany but above all Lombardy, as many as 4,500 Sardinians flew to Milan alone last year for tests and treatments . Very long waiting lists , public health in difficulty , Sardinia first in Italy for giving up treatment , so the army of those who move from the island to look elsewhere for answers to the right to health continues to grow.
The island has a regional law (26 of 1991) which supports those who are forced to travel, but changes are needed and are now contained in a proposal put forward by around ten councillors, the first signatory being Roberto Deriu. Objective: to simplify the process of accessing indirect assistance for healthcare migrants and reduce the number of those (Sardinia first in Italy) who give up treatment.
Not only that, a bill has also arrived at the Chamber in Rome, signed by the deputy Emiliano Fenu, suggested by the ''Viaggi per la salute'' association, which aims to make access to treatment easier for those who are forced to move. Both initiatives were presented in Nuoro at a conference, in the presence of the president of the Region Alessandra Todde and the health councilor Armando Bartolazzi.
