Waiting times for breast cancer surgery have returned to unacceptable levels. About seventy days after diagnosis, when the law requires thirty: it is logical that many patients from Cagliari go to other regions to have surgery. It is an emergency again, there was a short period, a year ago, in which we managed to reduce the waiting lists a bit, but then the situation worsened again. And this is true for many pathologies: Sardinian citizens do not find adequate answers within the limits of "safety" in the regional health system and so they leave for Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Veneto, Liguria and Lazio, which together absorb 80% of the cases of migration for health.

The travel of the sick - more or less 14 thousand per year - is increasing, as certified by the data on mobility expenditure: the total debts (i.e. how much it costs to pay for the care of patients outside the Island) is 108,742,107 euros, the credits (the item for those who arrive here) 25,759,668 euros, therefore the liability charged to the regional budget is 82,982,439 euros. The previous year it was equal to 61 million.

"The situation is very worrying, there are more and more Sardinians forced to go beyond the Tirreno to get treatment", comments the spokesperson of Cittadinanza Giorgio Vidili , "our health system is not capable of providing timely responses, and not all those who apply are granted authorization to leave. Then, there are those forced to give up altogether, because they are not in the economic conditions to face the costs of an illness".
