There is still a great hunger for “Harry Potter,” even after the overwhelming success of the novels and the equally positive results of the film adaptations. This is demonstrated by the first information leaked about the HBO television series, which, since its announcement, has aroused the interest of both the most hardened fans and those who - at the time - did not pay enough attention to the saga, and now intend to remedy that unforgivable lack.
After the official announcement, in recent weeks, of the three young actors who will play the main characters - Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton, respectively in the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione - the cast continues to grow day by day. For the role of Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic played by Robert Hardy in the film series, Bertie Carvel seems to have been chosen, who will also appear in the miniseries "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", a spin-off of "Game of Thrones". The news of his involvement was reported by Deadline, even if HBO has not yet released official confirmations or denials.
Among the names revealed by the network, there are Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as the Dursleys, Petunia and Vernon, Harry's cold and gruff aunt and uncle who take him in after the death of his parents. New cast members also include Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt and Johnny Flynn as Draco and Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown.
Also taking part in the production will be Tom Felton, the actor who played Draco Malfoy in the original films. Although it has been confirmed that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint will not be returning to their roles, it has been revealed that Felton will still have a role in the new project. The news, reported by the Daily Mail, underlines the maintenance of the relationship between the actor and JK Rowling, contrary to what happened with other historical members of the cast: «Tom has Jo's blessing. While others have turned their backs on her, he has treated her with dignity, even if he may not have agreed with her».
Fans will also be delighted to hear that Felton is returning as Draco in the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which will run on Broadway for 19 weeks, from November 11 through March 22, 2026. Set 19 years after the events of the main series, the show follows Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they prepare their children to attend Hogwarts and discover the wizarding world.
Felton, the first actor from the film series to join the stage show, said: “Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Joining this production will be a truly significant moment for me, because when I begin performances of Cursed Child this fall, I will be exactly the age Draco is in the show. It’s surreal to step into his shoes, and of course back to his iconic platinum blonde hair, and I’m thrilled to be able to tell the continuation of his story and share it with the greatest community of fans in the world. I can’t wait to join this incredible company and be a part of the Broadway community.”
While distancing himself from the controversy surrounding JK Rowling's controversial views on the transgender community, Felton wanted to reiterate his affection for the franchise, clearly distinguishing his personal positions. Interviewed by Variety on the red carpet of the 2025 Tony Awards, he said: "No, I can't say that they influence me. I'm not very in tune with those things. The only thing I keep telling myself is that I've been lucky. I've traveled the world and I've never seen anything that unites so many people as Harry Potter. And that's her credit, so I'll always be grateful."
