By 2050 all buildings in the Euro area will have to be zero-emission, but even before that, the older and less environmentally sustainable ones will be forced to "makeover their look" to consume 16% less energy by 2030 and achieve a cut by at least 20% five years later.

This was established by Europe with the "Green Homes" directive which was approved by Parliament in recent days. Sardinia, therefore, will also have to "renovate" itself using tools such as replacement of window frames, installation of solar panels, replacement of heating and cooling systems with modern and environmentally friendly devices.

For the island these rules correspond to a historical blow: a third of the building stock is more than 60 years old and is among the most dilapidated in Europe. It is estimated that the bill could reach the ceiling of 6.5 billion euros. To be spent in less than 6 years.

And families will always pay the price, given that an estimate of the work necessary to comply with EU regulations could range from a minimum of 35 thousand to a maximum of 60 thousand euros. But in Brussels there is no turning back and the countdown has begun.
