The new development model for historic centers, gradually being abandoned in many Sardinian municipalities, must include elements of economic, environmental, and social sustainability and, in particular, active community participation. At Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome, in the press room of the Chamber of Deputies, Giovanni Antonio Sanna was also present to present the book " Historic Centers, the Soul of Cities ," edited by Daniela Cavallo , architect and professor of Territorial Marketing, and published by Movability Books Simtur , an association that brings together professionals in sustainable tourism and mobility.
Sanna, from Ozieri, is the author of the tenth chapter, dedicated to the future of historic centers: "There are approximately 23,000 historic centers experiencing abandonment, depopulation, and a decline in interest nationwide. This requires serious reflection on an issue that affects the identity and reputation of these places, and their possible futures."
This publication offers readers a complex, profound, and multidisciplinary look at the role, meaning, and identity of historic centers in the 21st century. It is not merely an architectural or urban exploration, but a true journey into the soul of places that preserve collective memory, a sense of belonging, and the cultural stratification of local communities. The book interweaves theoretical reflections and practical cases, strategic visions and poetic suggestions, highlighting how historic centers are not merely repositories of heritage but living organisms, constantly evolving.
