Giorgia Meloni, the first female prime minister and leader of the Brothers of Italy, the heir party to the Italian Social Movement, is related to Antonio Gramsci, founder of the Italian Communist Party.

The Prime Minister's Sardinian origins are well known. But the fact that she was a descendant of the great left-wing intellectual caused a stir and curiosity.

The discovery was made by Alessio Vernetti, Youtrend analyst, who reconstructed the family tree of Palazzo Chigi's number one, discovering that among her ancestors there is the author of "Quaderni dal Prison".

Not only that: Meloni is also related to two other well-known figures in Italian political history: Gianni Letta - for years one of Silvio Berlusconi's loyalists - and Enrico Letta, former secretary of the Democratic Party.

The discovery was made by Alessio Vernetti, Youtrend analyst, who published on

«Gramsci's grandmother first married the brother of a car transporter from Meloni. In Ghilarza, Giorgia Meloni's ancestors are intertwined with those of Antonio Gramsci and, through the latter, with Gianni and Enrico Letta: this is how I discovered the family bond between all of them", writes Vernetti in a post, at the bottom of the family tree which, obviously, was full of shares and comments on social media.
