Gino Mader, the cyclist who crashed into a ravine during a race, has died

“Gino lost the battle to recover from the serious injuries he sustained. Our entire team is devastated by this tragic accident, and our thoughts and prayers are with Gino's family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time." The message of condolence comes from Bahrain, the team which included Gino Mader, the Swiss cyclist who died after falling into a ravine during the fifth stage of the Tour of Switzerland.
Mader, 26, had been revived but failed to survive.
“Despite the efforts of the outstanding medical staff at the Chur hospital, Gino was unable to overcome his latest and greatest challenge. At 11:30 we said goodbye to one of the bright lights in our team. Gino was an extraordinary athlete, an example of determination, a valued member of our team and of the entire cycling community. His talent, dedication and passion for the sport have inspired us all.
“We are devastated by the loss of our outstanding cyclist, Gino Mader. His talent, dedication and enthusiasm were an inspiration to all of us. Not only was he a very talented cyclist, but a great person on a bicycle. We extend Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time. Bahrain Victorious will race in his honor, keeping his memory on every street we race on. We are determined to show the spirit and Gino's passion and will always remain an integral part of our team", writes CEO Milan Erzen.
