A statue made of passion, sleepless nights and over 12,000 Lego bricks. This is how Gigi Riva, Cagliari legend and icon of Italian football, lives again in a sculpture unique in the world.
A faithful and vibrant scale bust that will be exhibited at the Football Museum in Coverciano from 27 June to 8 July to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the “Rombo di Tuono”'s debut in the national team.
The work was signed by an artist, Maurizio Lampis, who wanted to pay homage not only to the champion, but to the man who embodied the pride of an entire Island.
"This project is one of the most important and heartfelt of my career," says author Maurizio Lampis. "I dedicated 45 nights of study and experimentation, reassembling the head of the bust nine times to find the perfect shape."
Inaugurated on November 7, 2023, Riva's 79th birthday, the sculpture immediately captured the attention of enthusiasts and industry professionals.
The final touch? The champion's original autograph, printed on a brick, makes the bust even more precious.
The satisfaction is maximum: «Exhibiting it at Coverciano, next to the World Cup and the jerseys of the greats of the National team, is a dream come true. It is the recognition that the work has not only an artistic value, but also an emotional one».
For the occasion, in agreement with the Riva family, only 60 limited edition commemorative bricks were produced : they sold out in just a few days. A small object to celebrate a giant of our football, still the best scorer in the history of the Italian national team.
