Farewell to Gianni Minà.

The journalist, writer and TV host died at the age of 84 in Rome.

« He left us after a brief heart disease – reads his Facebook page -. He was never left alone, and was surrounded by the love of his family and closest friends. A special thanks goes to Prof. Fioranelli and the staff of the Villa del Rosario clinic who gave us the freedom to say goodbye with serenity".

Minà was born in Turin in 1938. He made his debut in 1959 in Tuttosport, while the following year he made his debut in Rai where he made hundreds of reportages , conceived and presented TV programs and documentaries.

He was famous above all for his interviews with great personalities, the best known being that of 1987 with Fidel Castro, but also with the Dalai Lama, Federico Fellini, Jane Fonda, Franco Battiato, Massimo Troisi and Pino Daniele. The relationship with Diego Armando Maradona and Pele is very strong.

He has collaborated with various newspapers from Repubblica to Unita, from Corriere della Sera to Manifesto. He was also a prolific writer: from Fidel's story in 1988 to I will never be a common man in 2021. In 1981 President Sandro Pertini presented him with the Saint Vincent Award for best television journalist.

In 2007, he received the Berlinale's Kamera Award for Lifetime Achievement , the world's most prestigious award for documentary filmmakers.
