He promised and he did it: Gianmarco Tamberi left the Formia sports center for Fiumicino airport and then Paris , determined to participate in the Olympic Games at all costs .

The Italian jumper, gold in Tokyo 2020, has left everyone in suspense since yesterday with the announcement of a suspected kidney stone . For him also a fever that shows no signs of abating , but the doctors of Fidal (Italian Athletics Federation) seem optimistic today and it seems he will therefore be able to get on the track albeit in less than optimal shape.

"I will give my soul until the last jump, whatever my condition," Tamberi wrote to the fans yesterday in the post published on Instagram .

Today he arrives with his wife at the Roman airport around 1pm for the check-in operations and then enters, with utmost discretion, the transit hall where he will wait, in a small room, for boarding for the flight scheduled after 3pm.

The jumper, wearing a sweatshirt with the writing "Italy" and wearing a hood, wearing a mask in some situations, preferred, with a smile and courtesy, not to make any statements.

The qualifiers are scheduled for Wednesday 7 August which include a direct promotion with a jump of 2.29 m. The final will be on Saturday 10th at 7.10pm.

Tamberi will meet Mutaz Barshim again, the Qatari champion with whom he shared the Olympic gold three years ago.
