In conjunction with the anniversary of Antonio Gramsci's death at the end of April (he died on the 27th of 1937), the Antonio Gramsci House Museum Foundation in Ghilarza organizes a series of initiatives for the Gramsci Week.

The cycle of events this year is structured around the general theme Gramsci and literature. This is one of the most relevant themes among those that Gramsci addressed in the Prison Notebooks: literature, the role of writers and their relationship with the public, the concept of "national-popular" and the works of some Italian and foreign authors of the Twentieth century he dedicated many notes during his imprisonment, some of which were reworked in Notebooks 21 (Popular literature) and 23 (Literary criticism). Some of the major Gramsci scholars will highlight the most important aspects of this reflection.

The series of meetings, which will be held at 18 at the Aragonese Tower, will be opened on Monday 24 April by Giuseppe Cospito (University of Pavia), who will talk about Gramsci and fairy tales (between Notebooks and Letters). Tuesday 25 April will be the turn of Romain Descendre (École Normale Supérieure, Lyon), who will speak on Gramsci, the serial novels and the "national-popular".

The meetings will continue on Friday 28 with the philologist and essayist Silvia De Laude, who will talk about Gramsci and the Italian writers of the twentieth century, and will end on Saturday 29 with Fabio Frosini (University of Urbino), who will deal with the theme Gramsci, literature and the " return to De Sanctis”.

Furthermore, on Wednesday 26 April, the presentation of the animated short film "The Hedgehog Tree" by Chiara Sulis, Claudio Stassi, Juan Carlos Concha, produced by Animar Studios, will be held in the Municipal Auditorium, made with the contribution of the Region and the support from the Sardinia Film Commission and New Animation Sardinia.

The short film is based on a story contained in Gramsci's famous letter to his son Delio, dated February 22, 1932. The director Chiara Sulis and Mauro Pala (University of Cagliari) will intervene. This initiative is held with the collaboration of the Association for Antonio Gramsci of Ghilarza.
