Cagliari is preparing to shine a spotlight on the major geopolitical transformations underway. On Wednesday 18 June 2025, from 10:30 to 13:00, the Sardinian capital will host the conference “International relations and the multipolar world: geopolitical and security challenges”, promoted by Jus et Pax – SEM Sera with the patronage of the Municipality of Cagliari.

The meeting will take place in the Exhibition Venue of the Municipal Historical Archives with the aim of offering a lucid and multidisciplinary look at the great questions of our time.

The event will be opened by the director of Jus et Pax, Andrea Marini Sera, accompanied by institutional greetings from the mayor Massimo Zedda.

This will be followed by speeches by authoritative names from the academic, journalistic and research worlds: Daniele Garofalo, an expert analyst in terrorism; Matteo Meloni, a journalist and observer of geopolitical dynamics; and professors from the University of Cagliari, Patrizia Manduchi and Gianluca Borzoni, both from the Department of Political and Social Sciences. The debate will be moderated by journalist Matteo Cardia.

The focus of the conference? The new global challenges that the multipolar order imposes : from the redefinition of international balances to threats related to terrorism, through the strategic role of global powers in theaters of crisis.

A special focus will be on the impact of the conflict in Gaza and the growing complexity of relations between the United States, emerging powers, and regional alliances.

In addition to exploring the changing concept of power and international influence, the conference will also offer a reflection on how new “diplomacies” – formal and informal – are reshaping the landscape of international relations.
