It's not easy to combine new Sardinian music with the rediscovery of the local villages, but something is moving in Genoni : in fact, for the second month in a row, the center of Sarcidano will light up for the two new dates of " Genoni Music Factory ," a festival promoted by the Le Ragazze Terribili cooperative. After the previous installments featuring blues and experimental music, the Gavino Murgia Trio will be guests on Friday the 16th and on Saturday the 17th , the duo Arrogalla and Pierpaolo Vacca .
The first event, scheduled for 6 pm on Friday at the Open Space of the Elementary Schools , will see the trio led by the eponymous saxophonist and composer perform a live show designed for the local community, combining improvisation, sounds from across the Mediterranean, and contemporary styles. Mauro Mulas (piano, keyboards) and Daniele Russo (drums) will round out the lineup, offering the audience an overview of Murgia's artistic journey, which, through numerous projects and collaborations , explores ancient musicality through the modern lens of jazz .
At 8:30 PM the following day , the former Monte Granatico will host a duet between Arrogalla 's electronic music and Pierpaolo Vacca 's accordion, in a dialogue that reinterprets Sardinian tradition with an avant-garde twist , projecting it into the future. While Arrogalla—alias Francesco Medda—has gradually forged his career through a sonic exploration that blends island folk and world music with abstract hip hop and dub, as evidenced by the highly acclaimed "Suite" (La Tempesta Dischi, 2024), Vacca has been a master of the accordion since a young age, an instrument with which he has immediately strived to transcend all apparent genre boundaries, moving over the years between folk, jazz, electronic music, and Afro.
The event, which debuted in December, is supported by the Municipality of Genoni through the " Attractiveness of the Villages " project, funded by the Ministry of Culture and the European Union . The initiative's goal is to promote the area and history of Genoni , with more concerts, workshops, meetings, and activities for young people planned in the coming months.
