With +1.3%, Sardinia recorded the highest GDP growth in volume among the regions after Sicily (+1.8%).

Istat confirms this in its latest report on Gross Domestic Product , relating to 2024. This result is higher than the latest Svimez estimates (+0.9%) and is in line with the comforting data on added value released by Unioncamere last October .

On the regional podium, after the two largest islands, are Lazio and Lombardy (+1.2% for both) , followed by Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont (both +1.1%) and Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Basilicata (+1%).

GDP increases lower than the national average (+0.7%) were recorded in the Autonomous Province of Trento, in Tuscany (+0.5% for both) and in Emilia Romagna (+0.2%).

In terms of GDP per capita, the island ranks third among the southern regions : in 2024, Abruzzo was the southern region with the highest GDP per capita (32.1 thousand euros), followed by Basilicata (28.4 thousand euros) and, indeed, Sardinia (27.7 thousand euros, tied with Molise) . Calabria, on the other hand, remained at the bottom of the national rankings, with 21.7 thousand euros, preceded by Sicily, with a GDP per capita of 23.3 thousand euros.

At the national level, the Institute of Statistics highlights, in 2024, GDP in volume (+0.7% at the national level) increased by 1% in the North-West, by 0.8% in the Centre, by 0.7% in the South and by 0.1% in the North-East.

The Northwest maintains first place in the per capita GDP rankings, with a nominal value of 46.1 thousand euros, while in the South the level is significantly lower at 25 thousand euros.

Furthermore, the report states that in 2024, the disposable income of families per inhabitant in the South (17.8 thousand euros) will remain the lowest in the country, its value being just under 70% of that of the Centre-North (25.9 thousand euros).
