It is not only the failure to extend the cut in excise duties by the Meloni government that affects the surge in petrol and diesel prices we are witnessing in these first days of 2023.
There is also some speculation on the price lists, Codacons is convinced of this, which has announced a complaint to the Guardia di Finanza and the public prosecutors throughout Italy so that they can illuminate the price trend .
«Petrol in self-service mode has already exceeded 1.8 per litre , while diesel in served mode has broken through the threshold of 2 euros per liter - explains the president of the association Carlo Rienzi -, all this while the international oil prices are down and do not in any way justify the trend in pump prices, net of the rise in excise duties».
Codacons asks the prosecutors to open an investigation into market manipulation and to seize the fuel purchase bills directly from the oil companies , in order to "verify the reasons for these increases".
The only failure to extend the excise cut in 2023 translates, Codacons explains, into a sting of 366 euros per family . Money to which must be added « the indirect effects in terms of cascading price increases on the price lists of the products transported and on the tariffs of a multitude of services ».
