The condemnation of the revenue judiciary to pay one million and 283 thousand euros for the story of the funds destined for the groups of the Regional Council of Sardinia used in an illegitimate manner was not enough.

The former leader of Forza Italia of the XIII legislature, Mariano Contu, will have to pay another 30 thousand euros for the damage to his image . This was decided by the Court of Auditors of Sardinia which in any case greatly reduced the claim of the regional prosecutor who, in the indictment, had deemed the damage to his image higher than one million euros.

Defended by lawyers Antonio Nicolini and Massimo Delogu, Contu appeared before the jurisdictional section of the Court of Auditors presided over by judge Donata Cabras. In criminal proceedings, for the accusation of embezzlement linked to the alleged illicit use of the funds destined for the group, the former regional councilor had negotiated a sentence of one year and 10 months in prison .

The Court of Auditors in 2019 had then sentenced him in the first instance to pay 1,353,977, then reduced in the second instance to 1,283,329 . Now the new process for image damage, always before the tax authorities.

The deputy prosecutor Elisabetta Usai asked for a new sentence for the former Forza Italia councilor to pay an additional 1,343,977 euros, but in the end the judges quantified the image damage at 30 thousand euros .
