The former regional councilor Francesca Barracciu , formerly a PD MEP and undersecretary for cultural heritage in the Renzi government, will have to pay 77,293 euros to the treasury, i.e. the entire sum she had spent for reasons then declared illegitimate during the 13th legislature of the Regional Council of Sardinia .

After the 2019 sentence decided by the Court of Accounts , the final sentence of the Central Judicial Section of Rome has now arrived, the appellate body of accounting justice, which is in addition to that of the criminal judge who had sentenced the former exponent of the Democratic Party to two years and nine months for embezzlement.

Defended by lawyers Franco Luigi Satta and Aldo Luchi, Barracciu claimed once again that he had spent 33 thousand euros of funds destined for the center-left group of the Regional Council in fuel consumed to participate in political meetings in Sardinia, while on the remaining 44 thousand he confirmed that however, it concerned reimbursements for expenses incurred in the activity of a director.

For the judges, however, "Barracciu's conduct is characterized by malicious concealment where the self-certifications presented in support of the kilometer reimbursement requests could not allow the regional administration to know the offense, as the defendant limited itself to self-certifying the number of kilometers traveled with one's own car declaring an interest of the group which, however, has not been proven ".
