Starting today, the obligation for petrol stations to display the average price of fuel , published by the Ministry of Enterprise.

This is required by decree law 5 of 14 January 2023, with which the government intends to counter speculation, improve competition and bring down prices .

Managers will have 30 days to comply and, in case of violation, fines ranging from 200 to 2,000 euros are foreseen.

IN SARDINIA – For petrol stations in Sardinia, the average price displayed will be the regional one : the obligation starts within two hours of the opening of the petrol station, while those who work 24 hours a day will display the prices by 10.30. According to the data provided by Mimit, which will publish the national average values and those region by region every day on the site, in Sardinia as regards diesel the average price per self is now equal to 1.796 euros per litre , for petrol the figure is of 1.938 while for LPG (served) the figure is equal to 0.828 .

Nationally, the average self-service on the motorway is 1.984 euros per liter for petrol and 1.854 euros per liter for diesel .

THE CALCULATION – The difference in the regional average values depends on the type of plants, on the more or less widespread presence in the points of sale of other services and commercial activities and of logistic infrastructures for supplying the plants themselves.

As for the difference between one plant and another, they specify from Unem, the Union of energies for mobility which brings together the main oil product companies, it depends on a multiplicity of factors, including efficiency in management and procurement, the methods of service, as well as the commercial policies of the operator and of the company that supplies it.

INCREASES – In the meantime, consumer associations denounce extraordinary increases in the hottest days of summer departures with price lists of up to 2.5 euros per liter on the motorway. "There are no speculations," reassured the price guarantor, Benedetto Mineo. The increases in the last two weeks, in the order of 4 cents, would be in line with international market trends. And the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso , invites citizens to check, when they go to refuel, if the price is higher than the average and to report extraordinary peaks on the ministry's website.

The price net of tax in Italy would, for the first time, be lower than that of Germany, France and Spain. The minister therefore excludes an intervention on excise duties , which according to Urso are resources "well spent" and serve to finance "measures of greater impact for the most needy classes", from cutting the tax wedge to measures for large families.

In the meantime, fuel managers continue to fight over the cartels with average prices and Fegica and Figisc have announced an appeal to the state council, to block a measure which according to them will not bring benefits to consumers and is deemed incompatible with the rules on competition.

While Faib asks to avoid harsh sanctions, also because several plants have not yet received the cartels. Chiara Appendino (M5s) instead rails against the declarations on excise duties, who defines them as a "farce" and calls for the extra profits to be taxed if you want to help the needy. And also the Pd with Marco Sarracino attacks: «According to Minister Urso, expensive fuel is not a priority».
