After the experience of Amici in 2017, that year he was the artist who sold the most records, touring Italy and reaching as far as Argentina. Just three years later, in 2020, after arriving last at Sanremo with “Lo sapere dagli stessi”, he eclipsed himself until he gradually disappeared.
Riki, aka Riccardo Marcuzzo, born in Segrate 32 years ago, tells his story to Corriere della Sera a few months after the release of his new album, “Casabase”, which will be released in spring. «There was a major down moment, when I was alone – he reconstructs – I lived three very important years where, however, I was not the master of my destiny, in fact many times I vented my loneliness and my anger, the golden cage in which I felt, in my impulsive being. So I did a few stupid things. I had to follow the logic of the market and at a certain point I got stuck».
"It happens slowly," he continues, "you don't realize it right away because in the meantime things go very fast and you can't take breaks. I don't even want to blame the people around me because it all came from me too: it was a drugged system and we always wanted more."
" Since it was a gradual process, you realize afterwards that you have fallen into depression - he continues - Right now I could say yes because I was feeling really bad. I had trouble sleeping, I didn't feel like doing anything. I was listless and totally apathetic, nothing impressed me, as if I were detached and transparent".
Today he starts again with “Casabase”, «an album that I wanted to build to create my happy place». The next single is «Carillon»: «It talks about loneliness, I wrote it for my grandmother who passed away in February». And if it doesn't go first in the charts? «Right now the charts aren't important, but I don't deny that the goal is to get back to doing things at the top».
