Every corner holds a story, and in Olbia, it's time to rediscover the Giudicati period and ancient Civita, thanks in part to the renewed interest sparked by the recent publication of Flavio Fara's novel, Memoirs of Elena of Gallura.
Starting from one of the most iconic monuments of the era, the Basilica of San Simplicio, built in Pisan-Romanesque style on the site of a Punic-Roman necropolis, and ending in Piazza Elena di Gallura, the "Walking in the Middle Ages" initiative, scheduled for this evening at 9:30 pm, will take participants on an unusual and fascinating journey through time through five stops in the heart of the historic center.
The tour will illustrate the most significant aspects of the Giudicati era through a dialogue between historical references presented by archaeologist Letizia Fraschini and readings from the Memoirs of Elena of Gallura. The readings will be complemented by other documents from the period, offering an engaging and immersive experience of the political, cultural, and social context of medieval Gallura.
On Tuesday, July 28th, "Memorie di Elena di Gallura" (Taphros Editrice) will be presented in the square of the Porto San Paolo Social Center, as part of the "Books Under the Stars" literary festival. Author Flavio Fara and archaeologist Letizia Fraschini will be present, and the latter will discuss the novel and the historical context that inspired it.
