The naval transport of incoming and outgoing goods is a critical issue in Sardinia that brings a sector that has been neglected for too long to its knees. The absence of cargo ships from the Porto Torres seaport has been recorded for a few weeks . The last cargo ship would be replaced by another ferry only for passenger transport. Roberto Deriu, regional councilor of the Democratic Party and first signatory of a question presented to the Region in these hours, signed by the entire Democratic Party group, intervened on the matter.

"We have been urging the regional council for a long time to solve the numerous problems of a sector in serious crisis - explains Deriu -, but all our initiatives have remained without adequate answers and in the meantime the inconveniences are increasing".

The last episode in Porto Torres where there are no landings for cargo ships. Furthermore, the continued lack of cargo ships from Olbia (absent throughout the winter) replaced in part by Grimaldi which, with the advent of the summer season and the consequent influx of tourists, could no longer guarantee the embarkation of goods.

"Therefore - underlines Deriu - the only cargo ships left are those departing from Cagliari, often old and no longer suitable for the transport of goods such as slaughterhouse waste, live and dead animals, gas and waste".

The device registered by the Dem exponents reiterates the need for immediate intervention by the Sardinia Region. "The situations have been well known for some time now and are getting worse day by day - specifies the exponent of the Democratic Party -, but the issue continues to be neglected by the Regional Council, while workers in the sector have to deal daily with critical working conditions and with the risk of having to keep the trucks on the ground, especially with the advent of the tourist season".

Regional councilor Roberto Deriu, together with his colleagues, asks the regional transport councilor "how much time still needs to pass before concrete action is taken to safeguard an important sector of the Sardinian economy, which has been on its knees for too long now".
